Bastionhost Building NS Data Center - Canadian IT start-up Bastionhost (www.bastionhost.com) said this week that it had entered an agreement to purchase a number of properties on the outskirts of Truro, Nova Scotia from the Colchester Regional Development Agency. The company says the deal will bring it closer to its goal of constructing the facility it calls "Dataville."
Among the properties to be acquired is a cold war-era government continuity headquarters bunker, designed to withstand an atomic bomb attack. Known affectionately as the "Diefenbunker," it was built by Canadian Prime Minister John Diefenbaker during the Cuban Missile Crisis.In an announcement issued earlier in the month, Bastionhost expressed an intention to "create a data center industry in [Nova Scotia]," citing its proximity to New York and London, and certain advantages in Canadian privacy laws.In Tuesday's announcement, the company says the former government bunker, decommissioned in 1997, will become an integral part of Bastionhost's Dataville, a [...]
